HARAS CUP WORKING EQUITATION EVENT IN MAGNOLIA,TX

By 9:33 AM

Maybe not everyone has heard about the Haras Cup, but for equitation fans and competitors it is one of the most important competitions of the year in Texas and the US, because it’s an international working equitation championship. This year, I made it to Magnolia, TX and attended the championship myself not only for the competition, but also for the fashion show by designer Jonathan Blake.  It was held on the last weekend of October this year.  Believe me, there were a lot of things I learnt about working equitation and the Haras Cup. Working equitation is a combination of equitation and the various equestrian techniques developed in different countries where riders use their horses for ranch or field work. There were four trials composing this championship throughout the 3 days of competition. The first three were for both individual and team competitions, namely the dressage, ease of handling and speed test. The fourth trial, a team competition, was cattle handling. I must say, they were all pretty much enjoyable and entertaining competitions to watch.

Friday was my favorite day of the event because of the super cocktail and dinner party followed by Jonathan Blake’s fashion show, which pictured below. I enjoyed  watching Jonathan Blake’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection inspired by last century’s elegance and style. The Speed Test begun at 9:00 am Sunday; perhaps the most awaited for and entertaining competition. The goal of the last competition in the equitation event was that competitors race to their own choice of music without dropping the obstacles. Of course, the best time was the deciding factor in this competition.

The final day of the equitation event concluded with the Hat Derby sponsored by Thomas Markle Jewelers, the award ceremony, and the auction, with items ranging from restaurant dinners to diamond necklaces, all donated. The money raised from the auction was donated to Kids’ Meals Houston. I have to say, the whole event was amazing and I am so glad I attended it because of the new people I met, the wonderful competition and the gathering itself.
